She Was More (A Poem)

A young girl in borrowed confidence.

Did you know she is a failure?
Did you know she is loud?
Too loud.
Did you know she is emotional?
With feelings always too close to the surface.

Too much for some.
Too honest. Too messy. Too real.

Did you know she has no direction?
She moves fast,
Reckless even.

Or maybe that’s all you saw.

Did you ever see her compassion?
The way she tried to make everyone feel safe
Even when she didn’t?
Did you notice how capable she was?
How she kept going
Even when no one said they were proud?

She was brilliant.
Not just with words,
But in how she imagined things no one else could see.

Did you know she was creative?
Spontaneous.
Colorful.
And chaotically beautiful.

She could’ve conquered anything.
And if that was always believed
Then why didn’t your actions speak louder?

“Actions speak louder than words.”

She was never the failure.
She was never too much.
She was simply more.

More than you were willing to understand.

And still she rises
Not for applause.
Not for permission.

But because she finally knows
She was always enough.
